Welcome to the upgraded OzarkRoots.net! My name’s Dan Holtmeyer, and I’m a Rogers resident who founded this little native plant nursery in 2023. Here you’ll find information about all of the operation’s essentials, including its mission, upcoming sales and plant species in stock.
For those who are new to this endeavor, an introduction: I started Ozark Roots because native plants are a source of hope for me in the whirlwind of environmental problems that we’re causing. The world’s warming, the weather’s changing right here in northwest Arkansas, the bugs and the birds are disappearing, habitat is disappearing, soil’s washing away, there’s pollution in the air and the water and the ground — on and on it goes. Native plants can’t solve those problems on their own, but they can help with all of them at once. They’re as close to a magic wand as we can get, so I’m going to sell as many as I can.
In particular I focus on plants that are native to the Ozark Plateau, from Northwest Arkansas up into central Missouri, and that have some degree of drought tolerance, based on information from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the Missouri Botanical Garden and other sources. This region’s climate is changing, with rainfall increasingly swerving from more intense storms on one hand to longer or worse dry spells on the other. My goal is to grow species, mostly prairie and upland forest plants, that are prepared.
One last point: I’m not to the level of automated online orders, but if you’re looking for plants or have questions, feel free to visit me at my market locations or drop me a note at dan@ozarkroots.net. Thank you for visiting!
